The High Strung Strummers are a high energy duo that specializes in old time Southern dance music and the performance of Anglo-American ballads that made their way to both Appalachia and the Ozark Region. Lead vocalist Sarah Jane Nelson is a multi-instrumentalist who has been playing traditional music for folk festivals, New England contra dances, and other regional events for over a decade. She is a regular contributor to Fiddler Magazine and is currently at work on a biography of Ozark song collector Max Hunter. Cathy Mason is a highly accomplished fiddler and music instructor who has spent more than 20 years studying Southern fiddle music with the masters of that tradition. She takes her fiddle on national dance tours each year. Together, Cathy and Sarah have been finalists at the popular Lowell Banjo & Fiddle Contest, and they delight audiences with the rich harmonies and rhythmic accents of their “twin” fiddling. Recent appearances include the Concord Public Library, New Boston’s 4th of July Celebration, the Deerfield Fair, and the Riverwalk Café.
